(KZN.RU, February 6, Ekaterina Vislavskaya). Denis Kalinkin, the head of the Kazan Executive Committee, inspected the night snow cleaning of the streets with Igor Kulyazhev, the deputy head of the Kazan Executive Committee and the head of the Committee of External Improvement, Timur Alibaev, the head of the Aviastroitelny and Novo-Savinovsky districts’ administration, and Sergey Mironov, the head of the Kirovsky and Moskovsky districts’ administration. It is planned to remove 20 thousand tons of snow from the streets of Kazan for the day.
The participants of the meeting visited 4 points: the territory at the underground crossing on Sibgat Hakim Street, the quarter passage on Adoratsky Street, the section of the main road near the house №28 on Vosstaniya Street, the Gorkovsky Highway section, and the snow-melting point on Nesmelov Street, processing 1.5 thousand tons snow mainly from the Kirovsky and Vakhitovsky districts.
Snow cleaning is being done around the clock in several stages. First, roads are treated with anti-ice material using combined road machines, and after 2-4 hours, the resulting snow crumb is spread by plow-brush mechanisms. Then, a snow shaft is formed with the help of graders, snow is loaded and transported to snow-smelting points or thrown to agreed sites.
I. Kulyazhev said that this night, all stationary snow-melting points of Kazan are involved. There are 6 ones: on streets Portovaya, Nesmelov, Vorovsky, Vasilchenko, Tulskaya and on the prospectus of the Victory. Temporary storage areas for snow were used because of the abnormal precipitation, but it will be taken to the melting once the weather is normal.
“We do the main work on the removal of snow at night because there are few cars on the roads and they don’t block traffic, so we can use heavy equipment. 517 units of special equipment were involved on the night of 5 to 6 of February. In general, these are dump trucks and heavy loaders”, said I. Kulyazhev, adding that it is planned to export about 20 thousand tons of snow per day, while 12-15 thousand tons are exported on ordinary days.
This winter, Kazan services use a moist reagent. The machinery are equipped with special containers for its wetting on each side. In this form, the reagent starts to act instantly, unlike the dry one. This technology is ideal for cleaning in strong winds. “Dry reagent gets blown by the wind, spreads over lawns, green areas, and the wet one sticks to the road, remains in place, and eliminates slipperiness. Therefore, we decided to use a two-phase reagent, and today it show itself useful”.
S. Mironov noted that the problems of cleaning snow from village roads is being solved much faster than a few years ago, due to the fact that many of them were asphalted. Now a grader and a loader can be used there, while it would be pointless on soft ground roads.
“Our area was cleaned completely. But of course, this snowfall now spoiled the picture. I think, we will clear everything within a week”, noted the head of the district. “It must be understood that this process is organized everywhere: in the yards and on the roads. Another thing is that it takes time to bring the streets in order. With so much snow fell out, a janitor, who previously cleared the territory at five entrances, now cleans only two during the same time. It is hard to physically cope with it”.
The storm warning was announced in Kazan on February 4. For a day, a monthly rate of snow fell in the city. By the decision of the Commission for Emergency Situations, the “Buran” plan was launched.
