The S. Rachmaninov’s Festival “White Lilac” will be opened at the GSCH named after S. Saidashev on June 2

(KZN.RU, May 23). From June 2 to July 7, the international festival of piano music named after Sergey Rachmaninov “White Lilac” will be held in Kazan on the stage of the Great State Concert Hall named after S. Saidashev. This year, it is dedicated to the FIFA World Cup-2018 in Russia. The State Symphony Orchestra of the RT under the conduction of Alexander Sladkovsky, a People's Artist of Russia, holds the musical event in Kazan for the eighth time. The program of the festival will present works by S. Rakhmaninov, D. Shostakovich, F. Mendelson, N. Rimsky-Korsakov, S. Prokofiev, and other composers. Musicians and conductors with world names will perform on the stage: Yuri Bashmet, Olli Mustonen, Denis Matsuev, Alexander Zinger, Andrey Ivanov, Polina Osetinskaya, and many others. In addition, young pianists Varvara Kutuzova, George Harliono, and Ilya Papoyan will take part in the festival.

The festival will open on June 2 at 5 pm with the Concerto № 2 for piano and orchestra and the Suite in three parts “Symphonic Dances”, op.45 by S. Rachmaninov. Finnish pianist Olli Mustonen under the conduction Yuri Bashmet will perform it.

On June 16 at 5 pm, Rhapsodies be S. Rachmaninov and J. Gershwin will sound in the Great Concert Hall, and the State Orchestra will perform variations on the theme of Paganini for piano and orchestra by V. Lutoslavsky and “Symphony №2” by S. Rachmaninov. This evening, pianist Denis Matsuev, jazz drummer Alexander Zinger, bass player Andrei Ivanov will play on stage with a symphony orchestra conducted by Alexander Sladkovsky.

On June 23 at 5 pm, the S. Saydashev State Concert Hall once again waits for the guests to the music program, the repertoire of which will include the first two Concertos for piano and orchestra by D. Shostakovich, as well as the works of S. Rakhmaninov “Introduction, Intermezzo and Dance of Men from the Opera Aleko”, the symphonic fantasy “Cliff”, and the symphonic poem “Island of the Dead”. Soloists of the evening will be the pianists Polina Osetinskaya and Dmitry Masleev, the conductor will be Cesar Alvarez.

On June 30 at 5 pm, the State Symphony Orchestra of the RT with Ekaterina Mechetina and Philipp Kopachevsky (piano) will perform an overture to the opera “Ruslan and Lyudmila” by M. Glinka, a Concerto for two pianos and orchestra in A flat major by F. Mendelssohn, a symphonic suite “Scheherazade”, Op. 35 by N. Rimsky-Korsakov. Estonian conductor Kristiina Poska will be leading the orchestra in Kazan for the first time.

On July 7 at 5 pm, the solemn closing of the festival “White Lilac” will be in the State Concert Hall named after S. Saidashev. In the final musical evening, Concertos for piano and orchestra by S. Prokofiev and R. Shchedrin, as well as the fantasy for orchestra “Fireworks” by I. Stravinsky will sound for the audience. The conductor of the concert will be Timur Zangiev, the solo – by young pianists Varvara Kutuzova, George Harliono, and Ilya Papoyan.

The festival “White Lilac” is dedicated to the famous Russian composer, pianist, and conductor Sergey Rachmaninov, who created his own original style that influenced not only the domestic but also the world music of the XX century.
