(KZN.RU, February 8, Mikhail Chentsov). The memory of seven outstanding personalities Fikryat Tabeev, Gumer Usmanov, Rudolf Nuriev, Shagiakhmet Alkin, Oleg Lundstrem, Victor Dering, and Yunus Ahmetzyanov, was commemorated in the name of the Kazan territories in 2017, by the recommendation of the commission on toponymy. Streets are named in the new micro-districts “Salavat Cupere” in the Kirovsky district, the RC “ArtCity” and the RC “Vesna” in the Sovetsky district, and the cottage community “Primavera”. Lyudmila Andreeva, the head of the commission and deputy head of the Kazan Municipality, reported the results of the work and new proposals of the city commission on toponymy in 2017. The meeting was held at the NCC “Kazan”.
According to L. Andreeva, the commission on toponymy is active in perpetuating the memory of outstanding personalities in the names of urban areas and in other forms. On December 21, a unique exhibition “Our Compatriots, Heroes of the Invisible Front” was opened at the Kazan Millennium Museum (NCC “Kazan”), dedicated to Iskhak Akhmerov, the legendary Soviet intelligence officer, member of the Kazan City Council of Workers and Red Army Deputies (1920), and his associates.
“Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, offered to name in honor of the intelligence officer one of the great streets of the new micro-district, being built on the site where the artillery school used to be. We offered the Executive Committee to name the street on behalf of Iskhak Akhmerov, and to call it not just Akhmerov Street but Razvedchik Akhmerov Street. People will read and immediately know who this person was”, explained L. Andreeva.
Members of the commission familiarized with the exposition and came to a common opinion that it is necessary to organize excursions for children and teenagers. The relevant recommendations on this issue were decided to be sent to the Department of Education and the Department of Culture.
As another example was the school №130 of the Moskovsky district. By the recommendation of the commission, it was given the name of Sergey Ashikhmin, the Hero of Russia, who died in Kazan while detaining members of the bandit group involved in the assassination attempt against the Mufti of the RT. In addition, the school №113 in the Novo-Savinovsky district received the name of Marat Akhmetshin, the Hero of Russia, who died during the fighting in Syria. Expositions, dedicated to the heroic deed, are open in both schools.
Lyudmila Andreeva also quoted statistics of appeals to the commission on the perpetuation of the memory of prominent figures and the naming (renaming) of the constituent parts of Kazan. The commission on toponymy received more than 60 appeals in 2017, including 40 applications from the office of the President of RT, deputies of the State Council of the RT, ministries and departments of the RT, public organizations, and more than 20 appeals from initiative groups of citizens.
During the meeting, Aidar Nogmanov, one of the members of the commission, the head of the department for studying the historical and cultural heritage of the peoples of the RT of the Institute of History named after Sh. Mardzhani of the Academy of Sciences of the RT, proposed to include the task of improving the so-called data bank among the priority directions of the commission's work in 2018. Today it contains 62 names of outstanding personalities. However, according to A. Nogmanov, the list should be reviewed and streamlined. And also it is necessary to consider other forms of perpetuating the memory other than name streets in their honor.
Members of the commission supported the proposal. In addition, the work on establishing cooperation with the Interdepartmental Commission on the perpetuation of the memory of eminent personalities of the RT was included in the priority areas of the Commission's work. Particular attention in 2018 will be given to the edition of street names. It is proposed to introduce the practice of adding to the surname of the outstanding personality of the military rank, status, profession when naming the constituent parts of Kazan.
Irina Dyabilkina, the head of the Department for Architecture and Urban Development of the Executive Committee, chairmen of the Housing and Communal Services and External Improvement Committees of Kazan, as well as chairmen of the committees and deputies of the State Council of the RT, and others took part in the meeting as invited guests.
